Completed in 1895, the courthouse was designed in a Renaissance Revival style using beautiful pink Texas granite. Many people compare it to the Texas State Capitol because of its grand architecture and iconic dome.
At the time it was built, some Fort Worth residents actually thought the courthouse was too extravagant because of how massive and elegant it looked compared to the rest of the city.
Now, more than 130 years later, it’s one of the most photographed landmarks in downtown Fort Worth.
And honestly? It photographs beautifully for weddings.

Tarrant County issues thousands of marriage licenses every year, making it one of the busiest counties in Texas for weddings.

How to Get Married at the Tarrant County Courthouse
If you’re planning a Fort Worth courthouse wedding, the process is actually pretty simple.
Step 1: Apply for Your Texas Marriage License
Before your courthouse wedding ceremony, you’ll need to apply for a Texas marriage license through Tarrant County.
Most couples begin the process online before going to the courthouse together in person to finalize everything.
You’ll need:
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- Your Social Security number
- Payment for the marriage license fee
Current marriage license fees are:
- $76 standard fee
- $16 with completion of the Twogether in Texas premarital counseling course
Texas also requires a 72-hour waiting period after receiving your marriage license before your ceremony can happen, although some exceptions apply.
Your marriage license is valid for 90 days after issuance.
Step 2: Schedule Your Courthouse Wedding Ceremony
Once you have your marriage license, you can schedule your ceremony with a Justice of the Peace in Tarrant County.
Most courthouse wedding ceremonies are short, intimate, and incredibly meaningful.
